A New Chapter For Milkshake

After close to four million downloads, our website creation app is set for new ownership.

In 2019, Envato co-founder Cyan Ta’eed had an idea; to create an app that empowered micro-influencers from all walks of life by giving them the means to make their business dreams become a reality.

That app became Milkshake, a website creation tool that allowed users to make the most of the one-link-in-bio restriction many social media platforms have – from Instagram to TikTok – and build a stylish, sophisticated website on their smartphone, bringing their social profiles to life in the process. Along the way, Milkshake has helped pioneer app-based website development for social platforms, highlighting a new way for users to make their digital presence stand out.

The response has been overwhelmingly positive. More than 1.7 million websites have been created through Milkshake over the last three years, as the app – ranked 4.9 stars out of 5 on the Apple Store from more than 11 thousand reviews – has helped people shake up their presence online, share their creativity and make a living through their passions.

From environmentalists and digital creators to pastry chefs and writers (and everyone in between!), Milkshake has become an invaluable tool for those looking to elevate their online presence from the mundane to the marvellous. Along the way, we’ve helped honour and celebrate women in business, created a School of Instagram, appeared on numerous ‘best of’ lists and even been honoured at the Webby Awards.

We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built, and what our community has been able to achieve with the app, but as part of our recent strategic review, we realised that the app was no longer going to be a core part of our future business and as a result, we were no longer in a position to help Milkshake grow and evolve in the manner it deserves. On November 8 AEST, Milkshake will no longer be part of Envato’s product suite.

But don’t delete the app! While Envato will no longer own Milkshake, the app will continue to live on thanks to new ownership. A small and dedicated team is set to take it on, all of whom have helped shape Milkshake since its early days, pouring their heart and soul into a product they now know intimately, and will continue to operate the business as its own startup. The app is staying incredibly true to its roots, empowering passionate people to bring their creative and business dreams to life.

While we’re sad that this is the end for Envato’s chapter with Milkshake, we are delighted the app will continue under such knowledgeable guidance, and we look forward to watching it continue to grow and evolve, inspiring a new generation of online entrepreneurs and aspiring influencers in the process.

Existing Milkshake users will this week receive an in-app message from the new owners, Codelbee, confirming the change and the app remains available to download on both the Apple and Android stores.
